Positioned in the Front Range and only 15 minutes from the Denver airport, the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center flaunts Colorado state charm but still has that mountain feel. There is a huge array of family focused activities, gorgeous mountain views, a state of the art fitness center with a few Peloton bike’s, and 5 fabulous restaurants. If you’re planning a work meeting, there’s over 500,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, 1,387 modern and clean guest rooms, and 114 high end suites. Enjoy the water park, lazy rivers, cabana, fire pit and corn hole, or treat yourself to a massage or facial at the exceptional Relâche spa.
We visited the Gaylord Rockies in October 2021 and the entire hotel was decorated for Fall. The seasonal programming featured family-friendly activities such as a Jack-O’-Lantern Walk, Wicked Awesome Pool Fun, and Goblins & Giggles Craft Corner. You can see it all here.
We booked one of the Gaylord’s decedent king suites furnished with a complimentary pack n play for Hudson (1.5) while Harper (almost 4) slept between us. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with modern furnishings and plenty of power outlets for our phones, lap tops, and kids iPad. The heating and A/C is central, efficient, and quiet (not those noisy window units).
The room was equipped with a mini fridge to keep milk for Hudson. The television had cable, HBO, and even Netflix. Harper got to watch PJ Masks before bed. It felt like a weekend night with the kids at home. A microwave in-room would make this place even better, but I totally understand why they don’t offer one. We easily warmed Hudson’s bottles down at the Marketplace. It took Taylor less then 10 minutes round trip.
Gaylord Rockies Things To Do
We attended a craft class, Gobblins & Giggles where the kids got to decorate massive sugar cookies. This was offered daily from 10am to 2pm. The staff was so friendly and extra kind to our kids. They customized aprons out of plastic wrap to protect their clothing from frosting.
We spent our first evening before dinner (dessert before dinner only on vacation) roasting s’mores, playing corn hole, and stacking jenga blocks. The kids chased the bunnies and we watched the gorgeous Colorado sun set over the mountains.
The pools are absolutely incredible. They offer an indoor pool, indoor lap pool, indoor whirlpool, waterslides, luxurious cabanas and a lazy river (heated). You literally relax in inner tubes and float around a warm river as the sun gazes down on you. There are lifeguards present and they patrol the pool constantly.
The Gaylord Rockies offers putt putt golf, a state-of-the art gym with a few Peloton bikes, basketball courts, and yoga every morning at 7 am.
Gaylord Rockies Restaurants
We ate at the Mountain Pass Sports Bar two nights in a row because it was perfect for our family. They offered colorful doodle books and crayons, fresh fruit with the kids meals, and equipped with a 75-foot flat-panel TV. The first night I had a Rockies Super Salad with organic greens, farro, edamame cucumber, tomatoes, roasted peppers chickpeas, yogurt dressing add grilled shrimp. Second night, the Pass Veggie Burger with garden slaw, pepper jack, rockies sauce, potato bun. They offer six different kids meal options.
We grabbed oatmeal and egg sandwiches and coffee at Rockies Marketplace every morning. They had a Starbucks in the marketplace for hot coffee every morning to get our day going.
Pinyons named after the gorgeous Pinyon pines that grow along the Front Range of the Southern Rocky Mountains is a great eclectic spot for cocktails and apps before dinner. At Pinyons we shared the burrata with heirloom tomatoes, olive oil. balsamic, basil, and delicious ciabatta from Boulder. The second night we had whipped feta, hazel dell marinated mushrooms, hot honey and pita.
Every member of the staff that we encountered over the three-day stay was great. Helpful and kind and truly genuine. From the bell staff to the staff at the pool, they were professional and positive. I love that each person wears a name tag from where they are from. Reminds me of visiting resorts in Vail.
This is a very young hotel and I know they are constantly making improvements. I would recommend an airport shuttle, an optional microwave you can request at concierge, decreased parking costs, and more baby changing stations. But all in all it was a perfect stay. It’s really not just a hotel; it’s a destination. I highly recommend the Gaylord Rockies and can’t wait to bring my family back.
