I am proudly boasting as the new co-host to Live in Tallahassee; the #1 entertainment show in the area. Live In Tallahassee is the exciting weekly show that highlights the good things happening around the Capital City. Simply put, this show spotlights the people and businesses of Tallahassee on TV and makes them the stars. It’s all good news, fun events, and a preview of things to do.
Live In Tallahassee airs each week in primetime at 7 PM on Thursday nights on FOX 49. I feel so lucky to be on a show that captures tens of thousands of people and showcases all the feel-good stuff that makes Tallahassee such a great place to live.
My 1st Week on Live in Tallahassee
My very first week on Live! in Tallahassee, scooters are all the buzz! Speaking of buzz we headed over to the Wakulla Environmental Institute Summer Camp to check out some new drone pilots and learn a little about aquaponics. Those kids are going places! I would love to enroll Harper in a summer camp to learn how to use a drone.
Next, we headed over to FSU’s Flying High Circus as we watch from the ground as some very talented kids learn what circus acrobatics are all about. We even checked out one of the newer brunch spots in town, The Egg Cafe & Eatery! They are located in the heart of Tallahassee, Kleman Plaza. Lastly, we took a seat in the presence of Tallahassee native, Jeremy Burns, as we listened to him read from one of his ever-growing novels!
Next show, I’m feeling more comfortable behind the care but appearing too excited; smiling from ear to ear. Tallahassee’s Roller Girls tore-up the track this week – battling the Thunder City Derby Sirens from Deland.
Live! In Tallahassee takes you to the rink – where The Roller Girls came out on top – 202 to 129. It had to be a long ride home – back to Volusia County.
We continued the evening at the Junction at Monroe, Tallahassee’s only true multi-genre music venue and private event rental space – and the best sounding room for miles around!
Later, Robert braved a visit to Tomahawks-51 – located on Tennessee Street near Momo’s Pizza – combines the chill of the beer mug – with the hot action of ax throwing! This is a terrifying combination.
My time on Live in Tallahassee keeps getting better. I had the absolute worst idea to take Harper to the Redemptive Love Farm near Monticello on the record hottest day in August.
I truly experienced what it felt like to melt. A family of seven runs a traveling animal farm with pony rides, a petting zoo, and a kissing llama.
They open their farm to the public once a month and of course, I decided to drag LIT out in August. They will have to start questioning my judgment soon.
We had too much fun at Tallahassee’ Wedding Experience at Brick’s & Brass. Located in the heart of downtown Tallahassee, this 5,500 square foot indoor-outdoor newly renovated venue.
It was the perfect day for a bride as the best of Tallahassee vendors debuted their details, decor, food, drinks, makeup, and cake. Bricks & Brass is artfully crafted in a modern and unique space.
I was thrilled to cover the 15th annual Parrothead Frenzy benefitting the Alzheimer’s Project. Robert was over at Comic Con and Joel was at the Annual Chamber of Commerce in Amelia Island.
Penny Weimer, chair of the Frenzy sends out a press release every year.
“Get ready to party with a purpose on Saturday, August 17 when the Tallahassee ParrotHead Club presents the 15th Annual Parrothead Phrenzy. Proceeds from the Phrenzy support the Alzheimer’s Project and the important services they provide in the local community.
The party begins at 6:30 PM at The Moon and features Jason Webb and the Caribbean Chillers, Florida’s favorite Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band. Dress is casual or you can put on your best pirate gear or tropical outfit and compete in the Tropical Costume Contest.
You can also bid on great items and fun things to do at the Seaside Silent Auction, including a trip to Margaritaville Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi. Be sure to arrive early when there will be plenty to eat at the Buffett Buffet, with food provided by Texas Roadhouse, Hobbit American Grill, Corner Pockets, Wahoo’s and Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville. Tickets to the event are $35.
The Tallahassee ParrotHead Club began in 1996 and is an official chapter of the national organization, Parrot Heads in Paradise, which was founded on Jimmy Buffett’s ethic of giving back to the community. “We donate to the Alzheimer’s Project because of the great work they do in the Big Bend,” said Penny Weimer, Event Captain for the Phrenzy.
“Jimmy Buffett’s father died of Alzheimer’s, so we know he appreciates the support we provide.” In the past 14 years the ParrotHeads have donated over $75,000 to the Alzheimer’s Project.
The ParrotHead Club is open to new members. It’s a great organization for people who like Jimmy Buffet’s music and the laid-back lifestyle he conveys, and who want to make Tallahassee a better place to live.
For Phrenzy tickets or for more information about joining the ParrotHeads, go to tallahasseeparrotheadclub.com. If you are interested in donating auction items, contact Penny Weimer at Pennyj14@gmail.”
