5 Free Reasons to Swap Out Plastic for Zip Top Containers

Table of Contents

If you and your family are making the transition towards a more sustainable lifestyle, this is the perfect place to start! Or if you’re like me, your Tupperware drawer is becoming a complete disaster. Zip Top is on a mission to be better for you and better for the planet. Zip Top containers stand up, stay open and zip shut! Do you know what that means? No losing lids.  Now, let me give you 5 really good reasons to start decreasing the plastic this year.

I am an affiliate for Zip Top because I am obsessed with these products. I’ve shared them multiple times on my Instagram page as well. This means that at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase. So thank you ahead of time.

Zip Top Containers are Better for the Environment

Zip Top containers are reusable. Not only does this benefit the environment, but it helps you save money, too. Ziploc bags cost around 10 cents per bag, which can add up over the years, especially if you use them daily. The upfront cost is higher than single-use plastics, but they are reusable and better for the environment and your health. And they are super stylish and look great in my kitchen.

One Zip Top can replace 5000+ disposable bags. They have replaced over 100 disposable bags for me in the last few months. The average family can use up to 2000 plastic bags a year FYI. That’s a lot of trash! We use Zip Top containers for food prep, cooking, lunches, leftovers, snacks on the go, travel, food storage, crafting and just about anything you can imagine.

Zip Top Containers Have NO Lids

Okay, admit is, your Tupper ware storage is not perfect. My husband and I take turns organizing and reorganizing it and we constantly loose our lids. When I wanted to make the switch from plastic to glass pre kids, everything was fine. Now I have two under four and glass is not a safe option. I love that Zip Tops are not breakable.

You don’t “zip” them, you just press together lightly in a few spots and done (extremely little strength required; if you can grip your phone with 2-3 fingers you can open and close these containers and it doesn’t even take that much strength).

Zip Top Containers are Made in the USA

Zip Top containers are made in the USA and constructed from one piece of platinum silicone, a highly durable material that is BPA-free and contains no plastic, fillers, or harmful chemicals. Even when I pour in hot liquids, I know I am not ingesting harmful chemicals. If you look at the bottom of each Zip Top container you can see that they are created w platinum silicone, a very high-quality, food-grade, and skin-safe polymer. It’s the same material used to develop baby bottle nipples. When it comes to food, you don’t need to worry about any nasty chemicals seeping into your food, the Zip Top product line are food-grade certified.

I want to add, not only are Zip Top containers made in the USA, it is also female-founded. This is a huge plus for me. In 2020, Finell pushed to change another industry when launching the first reusable pure silicone breast milk storage bag.

Why did you start Zip Top?

I wanted to bring eco-friendly into the future and create something that everyone would want to use, whether they cared about the environment or not. I started Zip Top because I wanted to create something that made food storage easy and clean while also being better for the environment.

Variety of Color, Shapes, and Sizes

Currently, there are four colors: lavender, teal, frost, peach or gray. The baby containers come in teal, pink, brown, and peach and are shaped like animals, which my kids love. My daughter will say, mommy can I have the cat container today please. We own them all.

The dishes come in 16-ounce, 24-ounce and 32-ounce. The bags come in 4-ounce and 24-ounce and the cups are 8-ounce, 9-ounce, 15-ounce and 24-ounce. There are also 4-ounce baby containers and 6-ounce breast milk bags.

Zip Top Containers are Durable

Unlike plastic, they won’t rip or tear easily. They can withstand the microwave, freezer, and even my kids. They can be used in the fridge, freezer and microwave. They can be washed in the dishwasher on top or bottom shelf. They take up less space, stand upright, and keep things from being forgotten because they are see-through.

I really like how these are easy to clean and so far have not stained from any strong sauces like spaghetti. Traveling with a pet in the car? Keep dog food and water in a Zip Top bag, and it doubles as a bowl for them to eat out of. This is what we use when traveling with our 70 lb goldendoodle, Brody. I have friends use Zip Top containers for makeup storage as well.

Only thing I would say is they need to offer even larger Zip Top containers, which I am sure will be coming in the future. Zip Top containers should be on EVERY engaged couple’s registry. They are seriously one of the best gift ideas. Looking to get your MIL a Christmas gift? Give the gift of Zip Top. One thing I read on line is that could leak if turned upside down. I have never had an issue, although I don’t pack liquid for my kids lunches. So keep that in mind.

The way your products stand opened is brilliant. I am clearly a huge fan of Zip Top and will buy them for every new bride, holiday gift, and more. Feel free to ask questions in the comment section.
